ADAM NANJI

I'm not a fan of folk music, but I found an artist that change my perspective on it. His name is Adam Nanji, a singer/song writer from Vancouver B.C. His work is a mixture of pop and alternative that brings an originality to folk music. He speaks from the heart/soul and I think that's what makes a powerful and true artist.
I thought about writing a very boring but interesting story on him. Then I remember him saying that, he have a very amazing story to tell. So I figure "wouldn't it be better to get the full story directly from the it's owner." So here it is, in his own words. The beginning process of an up coming talented amazing folk music artist.
Before continue reading please listen to his music at http://www.myspace.com/adamnanji, to understand where he's coming from.
So enough and look forward to his EP at the ending of this summer.

"The music… this is how it came to be. I’ve played in a band since I was a little kid but never wrote my own music. Last year, I decided to move across the country to Ottawa for school and to pursue music more seriously with a new band. While I was away I would check back in at home only to discover that “home” wasn’t the same. People were moving, changing and everyone was growing up. Scary. My new band wasn’t serious and kind of just sizzled out; all of this resulted in me beginning to focus on my own music. So I overcame my fear of singing and decided that if I was going to pursue a dream I’ve had since I was 11, I couldn’t rely on anyone but me.

So as a way of dealing with all these changes, I wrote music. Break-ups, love, homesickness, growing up and an obsession with fame soon became the themes of the soon to be released EP, Broken Hearts & Fame

I began to ignore my studies (probably more then I should) and split my time between Ottawa and Montreal, recording in both cities and writing music about my stays as I bussed back and forth.

So school ended and I headed back home. It was nice to be with familiar faces in familiar places, but the comfortable setting allowed me to think. So one day… I kid you not, I was sitting at the beach looking off into the distance, and it hit me, hard.
I realized that the one thing I knew I wanted for certain in life was music. SO I packed my bags and headed here, to Los Angeles in hopes of getting a record deal and having my music heard. So now I have a case of insomnia… not because the couch that I now call my bedroom is uncomfortable but because I am excited. I’m in this strange city with my music and while I admit I may not know exactly what to do… I’m ecstatic just to be trying."
